The technician can get all the latest drivers for the D915PGN motherboard and the BIOS update here (The latest BIOS upgrade is 0040). Tell the technician you want the hard drive "zero filled" before windows 2000 Professional is installed.

Take the disc and registration code with you, and after the processor is installed the technician can install Windows 2000 professional for you. I believe you stated that you wanted to go to Windows 2000 Professional and have a disc. These processors can be a little tricky to install, so I suggest that you take your tower and the new processor to a local repair facility and have them install the processor. This is a retail processor and comes complete with a new cooler. If you buy this processor, before you open the box check the decal on the end of the box and make sure it is a SL7Z9. This should be the processor you need, $79 and Free Shipping

Is there anywhere I can go on the internet to get step by step instructions on how to install a new processor? And where do I buy one? Any help would be great!! Thanks! lol I was able to run a PC Pitstop test and I got a red flag concerning the processor (serious problem, in other words). The funny thing is, everytime it boots up it's a different configuration of problems. Programs don't initialize or they do initialize but don't function at all or parts of them don't work, I get intermittent blue screens of death, my browsers won't open most of the time, it won't shut down, the machine is very unstable, etc. It's a miracle I'm online right now talking to you. To answer your question, no it's running terribly-barely running at all. Like I said, otherwise I'm throwing this computer out and buying another. It's going to be sort of like a 3rd grader doing brain surgery but if the processor is not too much money and if I can find out where to buy one, I'll try it.

The problem is, I have a Prescott processor with sSPEC #SL8Q7 (stepping RO) when the only processor compatible with this mobo, according to what the nice person in the other thread said) is a sPEC # SL7Z9 (stepping NO). There's a previous thread here which outlines the whole thing but I've copied and pasted the info here on my system and it's an Intel Pentium 4 630 3.00GHz HT EM64T XD 800MHz FSB 2MB L2 LGA 775.
